US Makes Tourist Visa Bond Programme Permanent
The United States is making its visa bond programme permanent for selected countries considered at higher risk of visa overstays or misuse. Some applicants for temporary B1/B2 business and tourism visas may be required to provide a refundable bond of up to USD 20,000. Travellers can recover the amount when they comply with the programme’s entry, departure and visa conditions. The final rule is scheduled to take effect on August 3. While the system is designed to improve compliance, it could create a substantial financial barrier for travellers and reduce visitor demand from countries placed under the requirement, particularly among families and price-sensitive tourists.
