IHG, VFS and Global Travel Leaders Put Mobility at Centre of Malta Summit

The ongoing WTTC Global Summit in Malta is highlighting a broader shift in how the travel industry approaches tourism growth. Discussions are increasingly moving beyond visitor numbers towards connectivity, investment, workforce development and frictionless mobility.

The Global Leaders Dialogue brought together government representatives and business leaders to examine how destinations can improve the complete traveller journey. Visa systems, border procedures, technology, infrastructure, aviation connectivity and hospitality were all discussed as interconnected components of destination competitiveness.

This approach is particularly important for international travel markets such as India, where travellers are increasingly influenced not just by destination appeal but also by visa processing, air connectivity, payment systems and ease of movement.

The developments announced around the summit also demonstrate the practical side of this approach. VFS Global’s expanded partnership with Malta combines visa facilitation with skills and workforce development, while tourism leaders are discussing investment-readiness and public-private partnerships.

For the B2B travel sector, the message is clear: destination competitiveness is becoming a much broader proposition. Tourism boards, airlines, hotels, visa-service companies and governments increasingly need to coordinate their strategies if they want to convert market interest into actual visitor growth.
