Global Aircraft Fleet Could Cross 50,000 by 2045

The global commercial aircraft fleet is forecast to expand by almost 80% and surpass 50,000 aircraft by 2045 as worldwide air travel continues to grow. Passenger traffic is projected to increase by around 4% annually, effectively doubling over the next two decades. Airlines may require nearly 44,000 new aircraft, with approximately half needed for growth and the remainder replacing older models. The expansion of air networks is also reshaping demand, with around 5,500 new airport pairs added since 2015. Newer and more fuel-efficient aircraft will remain central to growth, as airlines attempt to add capacity while controlling operating costs and environmental impact.
