AirBorneo Begins Commercial Jet Operations

Sarawak’s state-owned airline has started commercial jet services with two daily flights between Kuching and Kuala Lumpur. The route is being operated with two wet-leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft and marks an important step in the carrier’s ambition to improve connectivity for East Malaysia. A fixed launch fare of RM375, approximately USD 92, has also helped place downward pressure on market prices. The airline will add Kuching–Singapore flights from July 22, while Kota Kinabalu and Jakarta are among the destinations planned for next year. The network strategy could strengthen regional tourism, business movement and access between Sarawak and major Southeast Asian gateways.
