Maldives extends its 17% tourism GST reach to offshore travel sellers
This is one of the most important Asia-Pacific regulatory developments for international tour operators.
The Maldives’ Eighth Amendment to its GST Act extends the 17% Tourism GST framework to inbound tourism products supplied through offshore booking platforms, foreign tour operators and travel agents.
The rules took effect from 1 October 2026 for affected inbound tourism products, including accommodation, meals, transport and other tourism activities.
Why it matters to Indian and Asian travel trade: this can directly affect contracting, margins, invoicing, tax registration and package pricing for companies selling Maldives holidays from overseas.
The Maldives’ position within the broader Indian outbound market makes the change particularly relevant for travel sellers.
