VFS Global Founder Calls for “More of India to Be Shown” as Tourism Minister Sets 100 Million Target for 2047
Zubin Karkaria, Founder and CEO of VFS Global, issued a strategic call for targeted destination outreach during a recent World Travel and Tourism Council discussion featuring Tourism Minister Gajendra Shekhawat. “I feel India is not a one-time destination… It is not the Golden Triangle that you will choose. India is much, much more than that,” Karkaria said, emphasizing that “every state has the responsibility to excite people to go to their state”.
Karkaria revealed that VFS Global is exploring a “Study in India” product to leverage growing international student interest in Indian technical and engineering institutes. “Once the student comes in, the parents come in, the student becomes the ambassador of the country and then his friends come in,” he noted.
Tourism Minister Shekhawat outlined the government’s 3Ts framework—Tourism, Trade, and Technology—as a top priority, setting a target of 100 million inbound tourists by 2047. The Minister highlighted spiritual tourism as an unmatched Indian strength and positioned tourism as a key driver of employment and regional development.
