AI is reshaping the Muslim travel market — and destinations need to become machine-readable
The Muslim travel market is forecast to reach 262 million international arrivals by 2030, with annual expenditure projected at around US$310 billion, according to the 2026 Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index.
That creates a new challenge for tourism boards and hotels.
It is no longer sufficient to have halal restaurants, prayer facilities or Muslim-friendly accommodation. Those services must also be accurately represented in the data that AI systems use to make recommendations.
The next destination-marketing battle may therefore be fought in AI recommendation engines. This follows the wider shift towards AI in travel and hospitality and AI travel planners.
