In 2025 Washington, DC welcomed a milestone from the Indian market. India became the city’s top international market for visitor spending, generating approximately USD 342.7 million and surpassing the United Kingdom. India also ranked as the second-largest international source market by visitor volume for the capital.
The year set new records for the city’s tourism sector. Total visitor spending reached a record USD 11.9 billion, up 4% from 2024, while overall visitation edged past 27.2 million travelers—about 20,000 more than the previous year. Notably, arrivals from India remained near 22% above pre-pandemic (2019) levels, underscoring a robust recovery. Tourism’s economic impact supported 114,013 local jobs and generated USD 2.4 billion in local tax revenue.
