India’s SAF readiness reaches 52% — but the real challenge is scale

India has recorded an overall 52% readiness score for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), according to a new Boeing–Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials assessment.

India has set SAF blending targets of 1% by 2027, 2% by 2028 and 5% by 2030. At the 5% blending scenario, annual SAF demand could reach around 720 million litres, or 0.6 million tonnes, while the country’s potential production capacity is estimated at 14–33 million tonnes annually.

The report’s message is less about raw production potential and more about the ecosystem required to make SAF commercially viable — feedstock, logistics, financing, infrastructure, technology and demand. Why B2B should watch: Sustainability is moving from airline marketing language into procurement, infrastructure and fuel-supply strategy. Sustainability
