Akasa Air completes India’s 1% SAF commercial-flight milestone

Akasa Air and BPCL have successfully operated a commercial flight using conventional aviation turbine fuel blended with 1% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The Mumbai–Goa flight departed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 13:05 on September 8 and arrived at Manohar International Airport, Goa, at 14:30. The initiative follows an MoU signed between Akasa and BPCL in July 2026 to explore SAF adoption. India has set a target of 5% SAF blending by 2030.

B2B takeaway: SAF is moving from conference-room sustainability talk into actual Indian commercial operations. For corporate travel managers, MICE planners and airlines, carbon reporting will increasingly become part of supplier selection.
