Mekong Five Launch “Five Countries, One Destination” Plan

Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam have adopted a joint 2026–28 action plan under the framework of the Ayeyawady–Chao Phraya–Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) to strengthen tourism across the Mekong sub-region.

The initiative promotes the concept of “Five Countries, One Destination”, encouraging greater cross-border travel and positioning the neighbouring markets as a connected tourism circuit rather than separate destinations. The approach could support multi-country itineraries, longer stays and easier collaboration among tourism stakeholders.

For international tour operators, the strategy creates opportunities to design combined programmes across Southeast Asia. TheTravigator has also been tracking the region’s changing demand through coverage of Southeast Asia’s India travel strategy and developments such as UPI connectivity in Cambodia. Together, these trends point towards deeper regional integration and stronger opportunities for multi-country travel products.
