Bhubaneswar Airport Privatisation Process Begins
The Centre has initiated the privatisation process for Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport, bringing the Odisha gateway into India’s broader airport asset monetisation programme. The move is aimed at attracting private participation and unlocking investment in airport infrastructure, operations and passenger services.
Bhubaneswar is an important gateway to Odisha, supporting business travel, religious tourism and access to destinations such as Puri and Konark. Increased private-sector involvement could provide opportunities for upgrades in terminal infrastructure, commercial facilities, passenger experience and operational efficiency.
The development comes at a time when Odisha’s tourism sector is undergoing a major transformation, with the state focusing on investment, destination development and improved infrastructure. For the travel trade, stronger airport infrastructure could help Odisha accommodate rising visitor demand while improving access to its key tourism circuits.
