India Records Sharpest Domestic Aviation Capacity Decline
Global airline capacity rose 1.5% year-on-year in July to 565.5 million seats, but India moved in the opposite direction. Domestic capacity in the country declined 4.6%, the steepest contraction among the world’s largest aviation markets. South Asian capacity fell 3.7%, while IndiGo reduced flight frequencies by 3.9% compared with July last year. The India–UAE corridor remained one of the world’s busiest international markets, offering 2.21 million seats, although capacity declined 5.9%. Europe and Northeast Asia led global growth, while the Middle East remained below last year’s levels despite showing improvement compared with the sharper disruptions recorded during the previous month.
