CPP Investments Makes Landmark ₹3,000 Crore Bet on Indian Hospitality

Mumbai, India — In the largest foreign direct investment in Indian hospitality this year, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) has invested ₹3,000 crore (approximately C$441 million) for a 27% stake in Prestige Hospitality Ventures Ltd (PHVL), the hotel arm of Prestige Estates Projects.

This marks CPP Investments’ first direct investment in India’s hospitality sector. PHVL owns luxury and premium hotels across key Indian cities and is developing properties in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The capital will support the platform’s continued expansion.

Irfan Razack, Chairman and Managing Director of Prestige Group, said the investment reflects confidence in India’s long-term hospitality growth story. CPP Investments, which manages C$863.6 billion in assets as of June 2026, has existing hospitality exposure in Japan and South Korea.

Why it matters: This deal sends a powerful signal to global institutional investors that Indian hospitality is bankable at scale. It also underscores a broader trend: pension funds and sovereign capital are increasingly viewing Indian tourism infrastructure as a long-duration, inflation-hedged asset class.
