Worldwide airport traffic reached 9.8 billion passengers in 2026, representing a 3.7% increase over 2025. The industry has now surpassed pre-pandemic performance, with global passenger numbers standing 6.5% higher than 2019 levels.
The steady increase reflects strong demand for both domestic and international travel, supported by expanding airline networks, improved connectivity, and growing tourism and business travel worldwide.
Dubai and Tokyo Complete the Top Three
Following Atlanta, Dubai International Airport ranked as the world’s second-busiest airport after serving 95.2 million passengers. Tokyo Haneda Airport secured third place with 91.7 million travellers, reinforcing Asia and the Middle East as major global aviation hubs.
