IndiGo Resets Long-Haul Strategy and Suspends Heathrow Service

IndiGo will discontinue its current wide-body operations from October 25, 2026, as it concludes the damp-lease arrangement used to build its initial long-haul network. The agreement involving six Boeing 787-9 aircraft will formally end on October 31. Mumbai–Amsterdam flights will shift to the airline’s Airbus A321XLR, while London Heathrow services will be temporarily suspended until its Airbus A350-900 aircraft begin arriving. Rising fuel costs, currency pressure, airspace restrictions and geopolitical disruption have made the leased operation more difficult to sustain. The airline maintains that its long-term international ambitions remain unchanged, with future expansion centred around its own next-generation aircraft fleet.
