India Poised to Retake Top Spot in Sri Lanka’s Arrivals Data

Sri Lanka’s tourism recovery is gaining real momentum, with provisional data showing the island nation surpassed 1.3 million visitors during the first 26 days of July. India retains its dominant position as the largest source market, contributing 38,785 visitors —a robust 23% share of total arrivals. On a cumulative basis, India leads with 332,468 visitors , representing a quarter of all arrivals for the year. The UK ranks second with 18,419 tourists (11%), while the Netherlands and China are also showing strong numbers.

For B2B operators, the data suggests sustained demand for the India-Sri Lanka corridor. The marginal 0.11% YoY growth in July arrivals, despite lingering regional uncertainties, signals resilience. Industry insiders await the rollout of an interim market-specific promotional campaign next month, which could further boost arrivals from non-traditional markets, buoyed by the free-visa scheme.
