Seoul’s visitor economy reports a sharp rise in tourism spending
Foreign visitors spent approximately US$5.79 billion in Seoul during the first eight months of 2026, with tourism spending rising 59.9% as international arrivals reached a record high.
Why it matters: The spending figure gives destination marketers a reason to look beyond arrivals alone. Visitor expenditure, length of stay, shopping, dining and participation in local experiences can offer a more complete picture of tourism’s economic contribution.
For tour operators, Seoul’s performance also reinforces the importance of combining accommodation and transport with experiences that encourage visitors to spend locally.
