Maharashtra Implements Adventure Tourism Policy with Focus on Safety
The Maharashtra Tourism Department is implementing its Adventure Tourism Policy to promote adventure activities across land, air and water while placing tourist safety at the centre of its development strategy.
A formal registration and certification framework has been introduced for operators, organisations, resorts and service providers. The policy mandates trained guides, quality equipment, first-aid facilities, safety nets, fire-safety arrangements and emergency rescue systems.
Vikas Pansare, Director of Tourism, said the initiative has received positive response, strengthening tourist confidence and creating local employment. Activities covered include mountaineering, parasailing, scuba diving and bungee jumping.
Operators can register through the Maharashtra Tourism official website.
The initiative reflects the increasing importance of sustainable tourism and responsible travel practices, where visitor safety, environmental responsibility and community participation are becoming essential pillars of destination development.
The policy also supports India’s broader ambition to diversify beyond traditional sightseeing tourism and strengthen emerging segments such as adventure, experiential and domestic tourism, which are driving new opportunities across states and regions.
