Emirates Issues Apology and Compensation Over Hangzhou Diversion
Emirates has issued a formal apology and compensation offer to passengers affected by the severe delay of flight EK302 from Dubai to Shanghai. The flight, an A380 superjumbo , was diverted to Hangzhou on 22 July due to severe thunderstorms.
The diversion led to over 300 passengers being stranded on the aircraft for more than 12 hours, with reports of extreme heat and passenger discomfort. Emirates stated it is offering reimbursement for “reasonable and additional expenses” incurred by passengers. The incident highlights the operational complexities of handling superjumbo aircraft diversions in airports not equipped for them, a key risk factor for B2B partners managing high-end group travel.
