Maharashtra and Russia Explore Direct Tourism Connectivity
Maharashtra and Russia are exploring stronger tourism cooperation, including the possibility of direct flights between Mumbai and St Petersburg. Discussions covered destination promotion, cultural exchanges, improved air access and government-led collaboration. St Petersburg highlighted its museums, architecture, performing arts and World Heritage attractions, while Maharashtra was identified as a promising Asian destination for Russian travellers. A Russian delegation is also expected to visit Mumbai in September 2026 for a proposed destination showcase involving tourism stakeholders. The initiative gains added significance as Mumbai and St Petersburg prepare to mark 60 years of their sister-city relationship in 2027. No airline or launch schedule has yet been confirmed.
