Temple Tourism Boosts South India’s Intercity EV Travel

Temple tourism is becoming a strong growth driver for intercity electric bus travel in South India, according to Fresh Bus. The company’s data shows rising passenger movement on key pilgrimage-linked routes, especially Hyderabad–Vijayawada and Bengaluru–Tirupati.

Fresh Bus reported that more than 60,000 passengers travelled on these corridors during April and May, reflecting steady demand for short spiritual trips. The Hyderabad–Vijayawada route grew 13.1 per cent, while Bengaluru–Tirupati recorded 9.7 per cent growth. Weekend travel remains a major contributor, with pilgrims increasingly choosing organised, comfortable and lower-emission mobility options. The trend highlights how faith-based tourism is now supporting sustainable intercity travel across South India.
