India’s Tourism Growth Accelerates on Infrastructure Expansion
India’s tourism sector has recorded strong growth over the past decade, supported by major improvements in transport, hospitality, and destination infrastructure. Road connectivity, regional air links, Vande Bharat trains, inland waterways, and hotel capacity have all contributed to the expansion of domestic and international tourism.
Hotel infrastructure has also seen a significant rise, with classified accommodation capacity growing from around 80,000 earlier to more than 2 lakh today. Improved accessibility has encouraged more travellers to explore both established and emerging destinations across the country.
The growth has also helped tourism become a stronger employment generator, supporting local communities, hospitality businesses, transport operators, and allied services. With domestic travel demand rising sharply, tourism is increasingly being seen as an important driver of India’s wider economic growth.
