Travel Industry Records $39.6 Billion in Deals Despite Disruption
Investment activity across global travel remained surprisingly active during the first half of 2026 despite geopolitical shocks and higher operating risks. A total of 242 travel-sector deals were announced, representing $39.6 billion in disclosed transaction value. Three major companies were taken private, while credit-card issuers invested nearly $6 billion in acquiring travel supply and related businesses. At the same time, venture funding dropped to multi-year lows, showing that investors are becoming more selective about where capital goes. Asset-light hotel businesses and large online travel platforms continue to attract stronger valuations, while travel-software companies face greater scrutiny. Asia-Pacific is also emerging as an increasingly important demand-growth region.
