In East Africa, keep an eye on Siaya County . A leadership handover is taking place today as Wilfred Nyagudi takes over as Chief Officer for Tourism from Judith Oyugi. Oyugi successfully delivered the KICOSCA games, proving the county’s MICE potential.

The angle

As Kenya matures past the “Safari only” model, counties like Siaya are fighting for their share of the domestic and conference market. Nyagudi’s mandate is “expanding market reach.” Look for Siaya to start exhibiting at regional travel marts later this year to sell cultural tourism packages to international NGOs and regional corporates.
