AirBorneo plans regional expansion to Jakarta, Bangkok and Jeju
Sarawak’s government-owned AirBorneo is planning further international expansion, with Jakarta, Bangkok and Jeju identified as potential destinations.
The airline began international operations with Kuching–Singapore on 22 July 2026. Sarawak’s tourism leadership sees connectivity as essential to making Kuching a gateway to Borneo, with the proposed Jeju link particularly interesting because both destinations have strong tourism credentials and UNESCO Geopark positioning.
South Korea is already identified as Sarawak’s ninth-largest source market, with golf and education cited as important demand drivers.
The broader Asian aviation market is also being reshaped by stronger regional connectivity, creating new opportunities for multi-destination itineraries and connecting markets. Asia’s changing flight connectivity landscape
Trade takeaway: A new route can become a destination-marketing strategy in itself—and Sarawak is clearly thinking that way.
