Ministry of Tourism Issues Guidelines for 40 SASCI Tourism Projects
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Tourism has issued operational guidelines and a detailed project report (DPR) framework for tourism projects being developed under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) initiative.
The programme is aimed at transforming selected destinations into iconic tourist centres with infrastructure, experiences and facilities capable of attracting visitors from domestic and international markets. The Centre has sanctioned 40 projects across 23 states, with a total investment of ₹3,295.76 crore under the initiative.
The projects have been assessed on factors including connectivity, existing tourism infrastructure, carrying capacity, sustainability, destination potential and marketing plans. States are also expected to consult local communities and stakeholders while preparing their DPRs.
The initiative focuses on creating an end-to-end tourist experience while supporting responsible and sustainable tourism. The projects are expected to strengthen local economies, create employment and generate opportunities for artisans and communities.
Implementation and ongoing management of the projects will remain with the respective state governments, while the Ministry of Tourism will periodically review their progress.
