Karnataka’s Humanitarian Hospitality Initiative

Bengaluru     – In a remarkable display of proactive crisis management, Karnataka Tourism Minister HK Patil announced that the state is taking steps to     host international tourists stranded due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia    . Speaking at the three-day Travel and Tourism Fair, Patil noted that while the conflict has no direct impact on India, it has disrupted travel plans of foreign tourists, particularly from Middle Eastern countries, who are unable to return home due to visa and travel restrictions .

“Karnataka is taking steps to ensure their stay is comfortable until the situation stabilises, including managing visas and providing necessary assistance,” Patil stated. He emphasised that the state is fully prepared to host stranded tourists while simultaneously promoting heritage and niche tourism .

The minister highlighted Karnataka’s vast heritage wealth, noting the state has     over 25,000 monuments    , including world heritage sites such as Hampi, Belur, Badami, Pattadakal, and regions in the Western Ghats. Other sites on the tentative UNESCO list include Lakkundi, Deccan, Bijapur, Srirangapatnam, Mysuru, and Halebeedu .

He also announced a dedicated museum in Lakkundi (Gadag district), where around     1,500 artifacts have already been collected     and nearly 3,500 items researched. Notably, a family recently donated a     600-year-old ornament    , originally used to adorn the goddess, valued at Rs 5 crore by experts .

Take for the Indian B2B Fraternity:

This initiative demonstrates India’s emergence as a responsible tourism partner capable of absorbing displaced travellers. For hotels and DMCs in Karnataka, this creates an immediate opportunity to host long-stay guests from affected regions. For the broader industry, it positions India as a safe, stable alternative in a volatile region—a powerful marketing narrative for Middle Eastern source markets.
