Lufthansa to Take 90% Control of ITA Airways in €325M Deal ✈️
The News
Lufthansa Group confirmed today it will exercise an option to acquire an additional 49% stake in Italy’s ITA Airways for €325 million , increasing its control from 41% to 90% . The deal is expected to close in Q1 2027, pending regulatory approval from the European Commission and US DOJ.
Why It Matters for B2B
This moves ITA Airways closer into the Lufthansa orbit, joining SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines. For travel wholesalers and tour operators booking European air inventory, this consolidation means fewer independent carriers and potentially tighter capacity controls on popular Italy routes.
ITA CEO Jörg Eberhart’s take
“Lufthansa’s decision is a clear demonstration of the good work carried out so far.”
