Japan Airlines extends major Boeing 787 support agreement

Japan Airlines and Lufthansa Technik renewed their Total Component Support agreement for the carrier’s Boeing 787 fleet for at least another five years, potentially extending the relationship through 2036 and covering up to 67 aircraft.

The agreement covers component maintenance, reliability management, logistics and access to a worldwide spare-parts pool. A separate five-year agreement will support GEnx-1B engine thrust reversers and inlet cowls through Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen.

B2B takeaway: As Asia-Pacific airlines expand widebody fleets, long-term MRO capacity is becoming as strategically important as aircraft acquisition.
