India–Philippines air connectivity gets a major boost

Philippine Airlines announced plans to launch nonstop Manila–Delhi and Manila–Mumbai services in December 2026, subject to Indian government approval. Delhi is planned at three flights a week, while Mumbai is planned at four.

The airline intends to deploy 168-seat Airbus A321neos, including 12 lie-flat Business Class seats, while the new routes will also add cargo capacity between the Philippines and India.

For Indian outbound operators, the development is more than another route announcement: Manila becomes a potentially stronger gateway into the Philippines and onward regional markets.

The Philippines’ Department of Tourism is shifting its strategy beyond arrival counts towards tourism investment, infrastructure and connectivity, particularly ahead of the country’s hosting of the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit in November.

Tourism contributed 8.1% of the Philippine economy in 2025, generating P2.27 trillion in Tourism Direct Gross Value Added and supporting approximately 7.70 million jobs, according to figures cited by the DOT from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

B2B takeaway: More nonstop capacity can stimulate both leisure and corporate traffic while reducing dependence on regional connecting hubs. The Philippines is seeking to turn tourism growth into infrastructure, employment and investment rather than measuring success solely through arrivals.
