 Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)

Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) is the world’s leading trade association for business travel and meetings, headquartered in the Washington, D.C. area and serving stakeholders across six continents. It brings together corporate travel buyers, travel management companies, airlines, hotels, technology providers and other suppliers.

Why GBTA matters for your B2B travel/AI theme:

Scale: GBTA says its 9,000+ members represent a $1.57 trillion global business travel and meetings industry.

Research: Its Business Travel Index (BTI) tracks business-travel spending and volumes across 72 countries and 44 industries.

Technology: GBTA is increasingly a forum for examining AI, automation, travel management technology, data and emerging distribution models.

NEW FINDING BY GBTA: Business Travel Spending Outpaces Volume

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) released its 2026 Business Travel Index Outlook, forecasting a record global spend of €1.49 trillion, up 7.2%. However, the number of trips is only growing by 1.3%. This represents a cost-per-trip inflation issue. European business travel remains robust at ~600 million trips, but the report emphasizes that companies are prioritizing “quality over quantity” in their trips.

The development comes against a backdrop of continued growth in corporate travel and MICE, where companies are increasingly looking for integrated solutions covering flights, hotels, events, transport and destination services.

TheTravigator’s wider analysis of India’s MICE growth examines how convention infrastructure, incentive travel and emerging Tier-2 destinations are creating new opportunities for the business-events ecosystem.

Travelers are staying longer and spending more on experiences. In Vietnam, Phú Quốc recorded an 86% year-on-year increase in bookings, while Malaysia saw a shift toward deeper stays in Bali (jumping from 2.3 to 2.7 nights). The report suggests that the region’s own coastline is a “breakout star,” with demand flowing away from merely international travel to high-quality domestic beach destinations (SOURCE: Traveloka SEA Index (Q2 2026).

The trend reinforces a broader shift toward business travel spending, where higher-value trips and longer stays are increasingly important to travel suppliers and destination businesses.
