Global Tourism Set to Hit $12 Trillion in 2026, Adding 37.6 Million Jobs

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in partnership with Oxford Economics, projects global tourism will contribute $12 trillion to global GDP in 2026—nearly 10% of the world economy. The sector is expected to grow 3.2%, outpacing global GDP growth (2.4%) by nearly 1.5 times. Employment in travel and tourism is forecast to reach 376 million jobs globally, meaning one in every nine jobs worldwide will be tourism-linked .

Why it matters for B2B:

For tour operators, DMCs, and hotel groups, this signals sustained pricing power and expansion opportunities. The job creation figure is particularly significant for suppliers of staffing, training, and recruitment services to the hospitality sector.

“Travel and tourism is no longer just a leisure activity—it is a critical pillar of economic growth, employment, and global connectivity.”
