Gandhinagar     – In a massive boost to regional tourism, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sanctioned     Rs 1,185 crore     for a major infrastructure upgrade in South Gujarat under Phase-1 of the Surat Economic Region (SER) plan. The funds will be utilised for widening and upgrading roads connecting key tourist destinations across Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Valsad and Dang districts .

Key projects include:

– Upgrading the     Mora-Suvali Beach Road     in Surat to a four-lane highway

– Widening the historic     Ahmedabad-Dandi Heritage Route

– Expanding the coastal highway connecting Sanjan and Daman

– Converting the Waghai-Ahwa state highway in Dang district to four lanes, improving access to     Saputara, Shabari Dham and Pampa Sarovar

– Enhancing connectivity to eco-tourism sites including     Vansda National Park, Purna Wildlife Sanctuary and Gira Waterfall

The initiative aims to make travel to scenic forests, coastal areas and pilgrimage destinations faster and more convenient, especially for residents of Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat planning weekend travel. Gujarat has emerged as the     third most visited state by foreign tourists    , reflecting its increasing prominence on the global tourism map .

Take for the Indian B2B Fraternity:

This infrastructure investment creates immediate opportunities for homestay operators, local experience curators, and transport providers in South Gujarat. For national tour operators, these upgraded circuits now offer viable products for weekend getaways from major Gujarat cities and extended itineraries combining heritage, eco-tourism and pilgrimage.
